Coconut farming is a vital source of livelihood for many Filipinos, particularly those in rural areas. However, small-scale coconut farmers often struggle to access the necessary resources and support to maintain and improve their farms. To address this issue, a Public-Private Partnership Agreement (PPP) worth Php 599,850.00 was implemented from July to September 2020 in Brgy. Consuelo, BADS, to provide support to the Consuelo Upland Coconut Farmers Association.
The PPA aimed to provide the thirty-four (34) members of the association with farm inputs and ground-weeding assistance. The project focused on improving the quality of the coconut trees and the yield of the coconut plantation. The initiative was implemented through the collaboration of the local government unit, the Department of Agriculture, and the private sector.
The quantifiable and expected result of the project was to enhance the income of the coconut farmers and stimulate the local economy. By providing the necessary inputs and assistance, the farmers could increase their yield and improve the quality of their crops. This would result in higher income and better livelihoods for the farmers and their families.
The support provided to the Consuelo Upland Coconut Farmers Association not only enhanced the quality and yield of the coconut plantation but also promoted sustainable and responsible farming practices. The partnership between the public and private sectors was a model for future initiatives that aim to support and improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers.
