Biodiversity Management Bureau - Caraga (BMB- Caraga): Pilot testing for Reference Ecosystem and Biodiversity Expenditure Tagging
ROSARIO, AGUSAN DEL SUR — Philsaga Mining Corporation, in collaboration with the DENR UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project, began piloting procedures to establish a Reference Ecosystem and implement Biodiversity Expenditure Tagging within the mining tenement from March 9–13, 2026. This activity supports DENR Administrative Order No. 2022-04, which requires mining companies to designate 5% of their approved tenements as Biodiversity Reference Ecosystems.
The initiative explores scientific approaches to identify ecosystems that reflect nature's original state, while helping make biodiversity investments easier to track. This pilot project demonstrates strong teamwork among the government, partners, and mining companies to improve resource management.
